St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Community Liturgical Ministry Ministers of Hospitality
Ministry Description Hospitality Ministers are important servants of the church and perform a variety of tasks before, during, and after Mass; they are the representative of the church to parishioners, as well as visitors – who often receive their first impression of the church from the Hospitality Ministers. Ministers of Hospitality include Ushers and Greeters.
Activities Ministers of Hospitality are needed for each Mass. Based on the layout of our church, a minimum of six persons are necessary at each Mass to serve effectively and efficiently.
There are many functions performed by the Hospitality Ministers – among these are the following:
Greeting parishioners and visitors before Mass
Distributing bulletins after Mass.
Preparing the collection baskets for the offertory, taking up the collection and securing the offertory.
Coordinating a family to bring the gifts to the altar.
Ushering parishioners to receive the Eucharist and assisting with request for assistance to receive the Eucharist.
Maintaining a respectful and orderly environment during Mass and assisting with unplanned incidents that may occur.
Attending to the needs of the disabled.
Ensure the worship space is free from clutter and trash
Requirements It is necessary for Hospitality Ministers to meet the following guidelines to perform their duties:
Good physical condition – capable of standing for extended periods of time and assisting others.
Proper grooming and appropriate attire for serving in God’s house – as an example, business casual, or Sunday Best.
Attend training developed by the Parish.
Have current SAFE HAVEN training certiication [See Attachment 1]
Be knowledgeable about general information (Mass times, church forms, etc.) to assist others.
Ministers of Hospitality should be seated in a place which allows for easy access to the various responsibilities but also allows full participation in the Mass with the assembly.
All movements within the Liturgy are done with dignity and grace and never hurried.
