Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

Ministry Description
The administration of Holy Communion during the Mass is truly a ministry. It is the ministry of bringing the sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ to the People of God. It is also the ministry of witnessing to faith in the real presence of Christ in the action of sharing in the Eucharistic meal of Christ’s sacrifice. The ministry of the Eucharist should, therefore, be treated with utmost dignity and reverence.

In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. Bishops, priests and deacons distribute Holy Communion in virtue of their office as ordinary ministers of the Body and Blood of the Lord. (1) When the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the bishop, priest, or deacon requires it, the celebrant may be assisted by other bishops, priests, or deacons. If such ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are not present, "the priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose. In case of necessity, the priest may also depute suitable faithful for this single occasion (GIRM 162)." Requirements

• At least 18 years old or a senior in high school
• A registered parishioner of St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal
• Baptized, received First Holy Communion and Confirmed in the Catholic Church
• Regularly attend weekend Masses
• If married, the ceremony was either performed in or has been validated by the Catholic Church
• Have current Safe Haven cetification [See Attachment 1] 
• Approval by Pastor and Archbishop
• EMHC Training
• Commissioned by Pastor
• Agree to comply with the expectations specified (dress, sign in, substitutions, etc.) to ensure the orderly distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ at my scheduled Mass
