      • In the Gospels,Matthew 19:14 & Luke 18:16, Jesus clearly calls the little children to come to Him. In the document, Promise to Protect, Pledge to Heal the USCCB's Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the US Catholic Bishops have called for the protection of those same children. The Safe Environment Program of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston is a response to those calls.

Keeping the Promise Alive is a mandatory refresher course that goes into effect 2011-2012. Employees and volunteers who have taken the “Protecting God’s Children” program between the years 2003 through 2005 are required to attend in 2012. It is a 1.5 hour session with one video that provides ongoing awareness for the prevention of child sexual abuse. The material covered in “Keeping the Promise Alive” is designed to identify and reinforce the lessons of the original “Protecting God’s Children” program by clarifying some of the more challenging aspects of the sessions and strengthening the participants’ ability to recognize risky adults in their environments and take action to intervene in potentially threatening situations. A “Keeping the Promise Alive” session will be presented here at St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal on Saturday, February 11, 2012 , at 9:30am in Kukral Center. Those required to attend in 2012 should have received an email in December with instructions to pre-register. Additional dates and locations will be available when you login to register for a session.
